As some might already know Quake 4 went gold and should be on shelves Oct 18th (US)... My question is
"does anyone know if Q4 will ship with a linux installer??"

Personally I doubt it .... Just another reason to keep my dual boot setup
What do you guys think ??

According to posts on esreality there will be a linux installer for Q4. It will probably be released some time after the windows version as usual.

I ran it today, and on my PC I am able to run with settings Ultra High and 1152x864, but no AA. Ran from first time.

The only thing I don't like is that having Audigy sound card, the EAX Sound option is disabled. Is that with all you guys, and how to turn it on?

Sorry bud, there is no EAX support in Linux yet - as far as I know, I may go check that............no I'm right, no EAX for linux, but Creative are working on it. "Creative is working on a way to get EAX support into Linux, but since EAX is a superset of DirectSound, I'm not sure how easy that will be" - quote from Creative Quote

Have you heard of Transgamings new rendering engine, which they claim is 50x faster than DirectX. But then again if I am right, they making it commercial, not under GPL (or kind) and to be used in conjunction with DirectX.

Is Cold War available for Linux already?

Been running 10.0 Eval for a week now and very impressed! I'm having some trouble with Quake 4 though.
P4 2.53GHz
1GB RAM
Ati AiW 9700 Pro

Installed Ati 8.18.8 driver and running Quake3, UT, and UT2004 just fine and doom3-demo (albeit a tad slow lol), but getting the following message when trying to run Quake 4:

--------------- R_InitOpenGL ----------------
Initializing SDL subsystem
Loading GL driver 'libGL.so.1' through SDL
TODO: Sys_SetClipboardData
********************
ERROR: SDL_GL_LoadLibrary libGL.so.1 failed: No dynamic GL support in video driver

********************
--------------- BSE Shutdown ----------------
---------------------------------------------
WARNING: rvServerScanGUI::Clear() - invalid scanGUI

idRenderSystem::Shutdown()
Sys_Error: SDL_GL_LoadLibrary libGL.so.1 failed: No dynamic GL support in video driver

************************************************** **********************

I realize the 9700 is at the bottom of the heap for what this game requires and I think I'll be picking up a 6600GT soon, but any ideas what I can do in the meantime to be able to get Q4 to run?

Thanks!

Apparently your ATI drivers aren't working - it can't find a good openGL renderer. Post the output of "glxgears", as run from a command prompt. Five or six lines should be good.
